TRAINING IN IRELAND

Formal training in Ireland is divided into the Basic Specialist Training and Higher Specialist Training programme.

Training with the aim of applying to the Irish Medical Council for assessment of training and experience for inclusion on the Specialist Division of the Register at a later date can also be undertaken outside of the formal training programme .

​On 20th May 2021, National Doctors Training & Planning (NDTP) launched an E-Portfolio module on the NER portal to allow NCHDs not on a formal training scheme to access a generic standard document to record their training and career development. This can be used to generate a logbook to obtain recognition of their experience.
